David Olusoga

David Olusoga is a British-Nigerian historian, writer, broadcaster, presenter, and BAFTA-winning filmmaker known for his work in public history, television, and literature. Olusoga holds the title of Professor of Public History at the University of Manchester, where he focuses on communicating historical narratives to a wide audience. His expertise is regularly featured on public platforms including The One Show and The Guardian, and he serves as a columnist for The Observer and BBC History Magazine.

Olusoga's television work includes series such as "Black and British: A Forgotten History," "The World's War," "A House Through Time," "Britain's Forgotten Slave Owners," "Union with David Olusoga," and "Empire with David Olusoga." These programs examine topics such as British history, empire, race, and slavery. His books, which often reflect the themes of his television series, include "The Kaiser's Holocaust: Germany's Forgotten Genocide and the Colonial Roots of Nazism," "Civilisations," and "Black History for Every Day of the Year." Olusoga has been recognized in the Powerlist ranking of the 100 most influential Black Britons multiple times.

Olusoga was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his services to history and community integration. He has received the British Academy President's Medal for contributions to the humanities and social sciences, the Norton Medlicott Medal for Services to History, and the BAFTA Special Award for his work in television and public history. Olusoga is a Fellow of the British Academy, the Royal Society of Literature, the Royal Society of Arts, and the Royal Historical Society.

Olusoga delivered the inaugural National Humanities Lecture at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, and serves as an ambassador for the National Trust. He co-presents the history podcast "Journey Through Time." His expertise in military history, empire, race, and slavery has made him a prominent commentator on these subjects. He hosted the program "Barack Obama Talks To David Olusoga," featuring a discussion with former President Barack Obama, and delivered the Edinburgh TV Festival MacTaggart Lecture.
