David Kirkpatrick

David Kirkpatrick is a technology journalist, author, and conference organizer known for his expertise at the intersection of technology, business, and society. He is the author of the book "The Facebook Effect: The Inside Story of the Company that is Connecting the World," which has been published in 32 languages and was shortlisted for the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award. The book, developed with cooperation from Facebook's leadership, chronicles the company's history and examines its global impact.

Kirkpatrick spent 25 years at Fortune, where he founded and hosted the Brainstorm and Brainstorm Tech conferences. While at Fortune, he served as senior editor for Internet and technology, writing cover stories about Apple, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Sun, and other technology companies. He began covering computing and technology for Fortune in 1991 and published "Microsoft After Gates," an account of Microsoft's direction following its founder's departure. From 2002 to 2008, he wrote the weekly column "Fast Forward" and has been recognized as a leading technology journalist.

Kirkpatrick is the founder and editor-in-chief of Techonomy Media, which organizes conferences that bring together leaders to discuss the impact of technology on society. At a Techonomy event, Mark Zuckerberg made widely discussed remarks about fake news.
