David Greene

David Greene is an American journalist and New York Times best-selling author whose career has included reporting from the White House and international conflict zones. Before graduating magna cum laude from Harvard with a degree in government, Greene served as senior editor at the Harvard Crimson. Prior to joining NPR, he spent nearly seven years as a reporter for the Baltimore Sun, developing the storytelling skills that would shape his broadcast career.

Greene became a familiar voice to NPR listeners during his four years covering the White House, reporting from NPR's booth in the West Wing and covering presidential visits to countries including Iraq, Afghanistan, Mongolia, Rwanda, and Uruguay. He played a key role in NPR's coverage of the 2008 election, reporting on Hillary Clinton's campaign and examining the impact of racial attitudes on voters' decisions. After President Obama took office, Greene traveled across the United States for the series "100 Days: On the Road in Troubled Times," exploring how the recession affected Americans during the president's first 100 days in office.

Before becoming a co-host of "Morning Edition," Greene was an NPR foreign correspondent based in Moscow, covering the region from Ukraine and the Baltics to Siberia. He authored the best-selling book "Midnight in Siberia," chronicling Russian life along the Trans-Siberian Railway. Greene also reported from Libya during the Arab Spring and received the Daniel Schorr Journalism Prize from WBUR and Boston University for his coverage. He was honored with an Edward R. Murrow Award for his interview with two young men targeted in Chechnya and received the White House Correspondents' Association's Merriman Smith Award for his reporting on Barack Obama's speech addressing the nation's racial divide.

Greene hosted NPR's "Morning Edition" for nearly a decade and also hosted the news podcast "Up First," guiding listeners through elections, a global pandemic, and social change. After leaving "Morning Edition," he co-founded Fearless Media, which collaborated with KCRW to produce "Left, Right & Center." Greene spent significant time in Ukraine, working on audio projects including "Ukraine Stories," a daily podcast from Fearless Media recognized by Forbes Magazine for its narrative journalism.

Greene later acquired LNP | LancasterOnline, transitioning the news organization to a non-profit structure. He also filed a lawsuit against Google, alleging that an artificial-intelligence podcast feature in its NotebookLM tool replicated his radio voice without permission, highlighting ongoing issues at the intersection of journalism, technology, and public trust. With experience across print, radio, and digital media, Greene is recognized for his versatility in American journalism.
