David Foster

David Foster is a Canadian record producer, composer, arranger, and musician recognized for his significant contributions to the music industry. Foster has produced and composed hit songs and albums for a wide range of artists, including Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, Natalie Cole, Michael Bolton, Seal, Chaka Khan, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Chicago, Hall & Oates, and Gloria Estefan. His work spans pop, R&B, and adult contemporary music, and the albums he has produced have sold in the hundreds of millions worldwide.

Foster began his musical journey with piano lessons at age five, later enrolling in the University of Washington's music program at 13. By 16, he was performing with Chuck Berry. After relocating to Los Angeles with his band Skylark, Foster achieved early success with the song "Wildflower." He established himself as a session keyboardist, contributing to recordings by John Lennon, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, and Rod Stewart. Foster transitioned to production and songwriting, notably co-writing and producing several of Chicago's top-selling albums, including "Chicago 17." He earned his first Grammy Award for co-writing Earth, Wind & Fire's "After the Love Has Gone."

Foster's production credits include Whitney Houston's multi-platinum soundtrack for "The Bodyguard," featuring "I Will Always Love You," and Celine Dion's "Falling into You." He also wrote and produced "The Prayer" for Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. Foster has played a role in launching the careers of Celine Dion, Josh Groban, and Michael Bublé. His influence extends to music production, songwriting, and artist development.

Foster has received 16 Grammy Awards, including three for Producer of the Year, an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe, and three Academy Award nominations for Best Original Song. He has been inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame, Canadian Music Hall of Fame, Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in the United States. Foster received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has been honored with the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia.

Outside the studio, Foster established the David Foster Foundation, which supports families of children in need of organ transplants in Western Canada. He has contributed to more than 400 charitable organizations, including the Muhammad Ali Celebrity Fight Night, the Andre Agassi Foundation, and Carousel of Hope. Foster has also written music for stage productions, including a musical about Betty Boop. He continues to be active in music production, artist mentoring, and label leadership, maintaining high standards for production quality and influencing music producers and engineers globally.
