Professor David Clutterbuck is recognized as a pioneer in modern coaching and mentoring, with more than four decades of experience in leadership development, organizational learning, and human potential. Clutterbuck introduced supported mentoring to Europe and played a key role in popularizing 360-degree feedback, having encountered the practice during international research on management practices. Throughout his career, he has educated coaches, mentors, and team coaches worldwide, contributing to the advancement of leadership, talent management, and organizational dialogue through a combination of research and practical application.
As co-founder of the professional body now known as EMCC Global, Clutterbuck serves as a visiting professor at Henley Business School and has authored, co-authored, or co-edited approximately 80 books and numerous academic papers. "The Winning Streak," co-written with Walter Goldsmith, applied research to identify characteristics of high-performing companies, while "The Talent Wave" contributed to the systemic talent management movement.
Clutterbuck has distinguished between the US sponsorship-based model of mentoring and the European development-based approach, emphasizing mentee self-reliance and growth.
