David Broza is an Israeli singer-songwriter and guitarist whose music blends Hebrew, Spanish, and English lyrics with influences from Spanish flamenco, American folk, rock and roll, and poetry. Broza's sound incorporates elements of rock, pop, folk, and flamenco, and he has performed with artists such as Paul Simon, Sting, Van Morrison, and Bob Dylan. Critics have described him as "a post-modern Leonard Cohen" and "the Bruce Springsteen of Israel."
Broza began his career after serving in the Israel Defense Forces, developing a style that combines rock and roll, flamenco fingerpicking and percussion, and politically conscious singer-songwriter folk. He achieved national recognition with the peace anthem "Yihye Tov" from his debut album "Sikhot Salon," establishing a presence in Israel's popular music scene. His guitar work gained a following, and the release of "Haisha Sheiti" ("My Woman") marked a significant milestone, with the album reaching quintuple-Platinum status in Israel. Broza has released more than 40 albums in English, Hebrew, and Spanish, many of which have achieved multiplatinum sales, and continues to tour internationally as a solo artist and with various musical projects.
Broza's career includes collaborations across genres and cultures. After Townes Van Zandt's death, Broza was entrusted with a collection of unreleased poems and lyrics, resulting in the album "Night Dawn: The Unpublished Poetry of Townes Van Zandt." His album "East Jerusalem/West Jerusalem" and the accompanying documentary, produced by Grammy Award-winners Steve Earle and Steve Greenberg, were recorded in the Palestinian Sabreen studio in East Jerusalem and featured both Israeli and Palestinian musicians. Broza also released his first instrumental album, "en Casa Limón," produced by Javier Limón, which pays tribute to Spanish guitar and blends flamenco, baroque, swing, and classical music.
An activist for humanitarian causes, Broza was appointed a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, and his song "Together" served as the theme for the UNICEF 50th anniversary celebration in more than 148 countries. He is the founder of the non-profit One Million Guitars, which provides hand-crafted guitars and music education to underprivileged schoolchildren worldwide. Broza has performed more than 120 free concerts and events throughout Israel, supporting communities in times of crisis. His commitment to music as a means for peace, dialogue, and human connection has established him as a significant figure in Israeli and international music.
