Dave Stewart

Dave Stewart is a former Major League Baseball pitcher, executive, and World Series MVP whose career is defined by intensity, resilience, and leadership. Over 17 MLB seasons, Stewart compiled a 168–129 record with 1,741 strikeouts and a 3.95 ERA, pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, Oakland Athletics, and Toronto Blue Jays. His career peaked with the A’s, where he became one of the most feared pitchers in the game—posting four consecutive 20-win seasons (1987–1990) and leading Oakland to three straight World Series appearances.

Nicknamed “Smoke” for his blazing fastball, Stewart was known for his intimidating mound presence and steely focus. He earned 1989 World Series MVP honors after leading the A’s to victory and was twice named ALCS MVP (1989, 1990) for his dominant postseason performances. Stewart also won World Series titles with the Dodgers (1981) and Blue Jays (1993), making him one of the rare players to win championships in both leagues.

After retiring as a player, Stewart built a multifaceted career in baseball, serving as a pitching coach, assistant GM for the Toronto Blue Jays, and general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He also founded a sports agency representing major league players. In 2025, Stewart rejoined the Oakland A’s as a special assistant in player development, helping nurture the next generation of talent across the organization’s minor league system and Dominican academy.
