Dave Scott

Dave Scott is recognized as a pioneering figure in triathlon and endurance sports. He is the first six-time Ironman World Championship winner, claiming titles in Kona and setting new standards for performance in the sport. Scott's approach transformed the Ironman from a test of endurance into a competitive race, and he was the first athlete to complete the Kona course in under 10 hours, 9 hours, and 8:30. His background includes excelling in swimming and water polo during high school, earning All-American honors in both sports, and studying physical education and exercise physiology at UC Davis. After college, Scott coached masters swimming and transitioned into triathlon following his participation in the Waikiki Roughwater Swim, which sparked his interest in multisport racing.

Scott gained national attention when ABC's "Wide World of Sports" showcased his record-breaking performance around the island of Oahu. At a time when triathlons were an emerging sport with little financial incentive, Scott shifted the perception of triathlon from a test of endurance to a race to win. Over a 16-year career, he won five additional Ironman World Championship titles and became the first athlete to run the Ironman marathon in under 3:00, 2:55, and 2:50. He was the first person inducted into the Ironman Hall of Fame.

A defining moment in Scott's career came during the "Ironwar," a legendary rivalry with Mark Allen in Kona. The two athletes raced side-by-side for nearly the entire 140.6-mile course, with Allen ultimately finishing just 58 seconds ahead. Scott continued to compete at a high level, returning from retirement at age 40 to place second overall against a field of younger professional athletes, earning the nickname "The Man" within the triathlon community.

Scott is a master coach at IRONMAN University and founder of the Dave Scott Multisport Institute, where he focuses on making triathletes of all levels faster and more efficient. After his competitive career, he dedicated himself to coaching, guiding athletes such as Chrissie Wellington and Craig Alexander to multiple victories, and supporting thousands of age-group triathletes in achieving their best performances. Scott works as a triathlon coach, fitness consultant, motivational speaker, commentator, and corporate consultant, and authored the book "Dave Scott's Triathlon Training." Based in Boulder, Colorado, he leads sports camps, clinics, and races, offering fitness and nutrition consultations, sports analysis, and corporate speaking engagements. Scott's record of achievement and decades of coaching expertise have established him as a leading authority in triathlon, endurance training, and performance science.
