Daryl "Chill" Mitchell

Daryl Chill Mitchell is an American actor, producer, and former rapper whose career spans more than three decades across music, film, and television. Mitchell first gained recognition as a member of the rap group Groove B. Chill, which signed with Uptown Records and released the album "Starting from Zero." The group’s music blended hip hop with new jack swing influences. Creating the music video for the album introduced Mitchell to the Hudlin Brothers and led to his feature debut in "House Party," written and directed by Reginald Hudlin.

After appearances in "House Party 2" and "Boomerang," Mitchell landed a co-starring role as the rapper Kayam in Steve Gomer's "Fly By Night," which received the Filmmaker's Trophy at the Sundance Film Festival. On television, Mitchell was a series regular on "The John Larroquette Show" and "Veronica's Closet," and appeared on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," "Law and Order," and "The Cosby Show." His film credits include roles in "Galaxy Quest" and "10 Things I Hate About You."

Mitchell experienced a life-changing motorcycle accident that resulted in paralysis from the waist down. After the accident, he returned to acting, joining the cast of "Ed" as Eli, a character that became the basis for the pilot "Eli." Mitchell later portrayed Chill Trainor in the sitcom "Brothers" with Michael Strahan, earning the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance.

Mitchell’s television work includes a recurring and then main role as Patton Plame, a computer specialist for NCIS, on "NCIS: New Orleans." He also joined the cast of "Fear the Walking Dead" as Wendell. Mitchell expanded his television presence with a role in the ABC sitcom "Shifting Gears," starring alongside Tim Allen, Kat Dennings, and Seann William Scott.

Mitchell founded the Daryl Mitchell Foundation to raise awareness of spinal cord injury and serves as the Minority Outreach spokesman for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. He is an advocate for employing actors with disabilities and is recognized for his ongoing contributions to disability representation in Hollywood. Mitchell’s career reflects his commitment to resilience, reinvention, and advocacy within the entertainment industry.
