Darshak Sanghavi

Darshak Sanghavi, MD, is a physician, health policy leader, and innovator who is currently Chief Medical Officer at Machinify. He formerly served as one of the first Program Managers (General Partners) at the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), a multibillion-dollar U.S. agency tasked with advancing bold, high-risk health initiatives. Previously, he was Global Chief Medical and Clinical Operating Officer at Babylon, a digital healthcare company serving more than 24 million people worldwide. As part of the senior leadership team, he helped take the company public in 2021 and oversaw global operations across the U.S., U.K., and Rwanda, leading a team of 1,500 and managing over $1 billion in revenue.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Sanghavi served as Chief Medical Officer of UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare & Retirement division, the largest U.S. commercial Medicare program, where he led national clinical and affordability strategies. He also held the role of Chief Medical Officer at OptumLabs, directing large-scale research collaborations across academia, government, and industry. In the Obama administration, he was Director of Preventive and Population Health at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, where he developed major national programs including the Accountable Health Communities model, Million Hearts Cardiovascular Risk Reduction model, and the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program.

Dr. Sanghavi has also contributed extensively to academia and public discourse. He is a former Brookings Institution fellow and chief of pediatric cardiology at UMass Medical School, where he continues to see patients. An award-winning educator and prolific researcher, he has published widely on topics ranging from molecular biology to global public health. A bestselling author of "A Map of the Child," he has written for major publications including The New York Times, Slate, and The Washington Post, and has appeared on NBC’s "Today" and NPR’s "All Things Considered". He trained at Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and Boston Children’s Hospital, and began his career serving as a pediatrician with the U.S. Indian Health Service.
