Darrin McMahon Biography
Darrin M. McMahon is the Ben Weider professor of history at Florida State University. He is the author of Enemies of the Enlightenment and Happiness: A History, which has been translated into 13 languages and was awarded Best Book of the Year honors for 2006 by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Slate Magazine, and Library Journal. McMahon’s writings have appeared in such publications as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and The Boston Globe. Before his current professorship, McMahon held post-doctoral fellowships at the Society of Fellows in the Humanities at Columbia University, the Remarque Institute at New York University, and the Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen in Vienna. He also taught history at Yale and the University of Rouen, France. He is currently writing a history of the idea of genius, to be published by Basic Books.
