Darius Slay

Darius Slay, a retired professional NFL cornerback, had a notable career that spanned over a decade. Drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2013, Slay underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus but quickly bounced back, recording his first career interception in 2014. Notably, Slay made his first career playoff appearance in January 2015 during the NFC Wildcard Game against the Dallas Cowboys. In 2016, he signed a four-year contract extension with the Detroit Lions, further solidifying his place within the team. Throughout his career, Slay has been recognized for his significant on-field contributions, including multiple interceptions and defensive plays.

Slay's performance has led to multiple recognitions, such as being voted to the 2018 Pro Bowl. This marked his first Pro Bowl selection, and he was also selected first-team All-Pro. In 2017, he led the league in interceptions (8) and pass deflections (26). Slay's exceptional performance in 2018 earned him NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Slay was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020, where he signed a three-year contract extension. Notably, he changed his jersey number to No. 24 in tribute to Lakers legend Kobe Bryant. In 2021, he changed his jersey number again, this time to No. 2, following a change in NFL jersey number rules.

While with the Philadelphia Eagles, Slay was instrumental in their Super Bowl LVII performance in 2023. In 2021, he led the league with three defensive touchdowns, setting a career-high and marking the second most in a single season in Eagles' franchise history. After 13 seasons, Slay retired from the NFL in March 2026. Slay also hosts a weekly in-season podcast named "Big Play Slay," providing insights into the NFL from his perspective.
