
Danny Burstein is a Broadway performer known for his extensive work in musical theater and dramatic performance. Burstein has received a Tony Award, a Drama League Award, and two Drama Desk Awards, along with nominations for four Grammy Awards. He served on the Artists Committee for the Kennedy Center Honors for 15 years and received training at the High School of Performing Arts in New York, the Moscow Art Theater, Queens College, and the University of California, San Diego. Burstein was awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Queens College.
Burstein made his Broadway debut in 1992 and became a regular presence on the New York stage. He was an original company member of Tony Randall's National Actors Theater, with credits including "Three Men on a Horse," "Saint Joan," "The Seagull," "A Little Hotel on the Side," and "The Flowering Peach." His career advanced with performances in productions such as "The Drowsy Chaperone," earning his first Tony nomination, followed by nominations for "South Pacific," "Follies," and "Golden Boy." He played Tevye in the Broadway revival of "Fiddler on the Roof," earning a second Drama Desk Award and a Tony Award nomination.
Burstein originated the role of Harold Zidler in the Broadway premiere of "Moulin Rouge! The Musical," a performance that earned him a Tony Award, the Distinguished Performance Award at the Drama League Awards, and the Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical at the Outer Critics Circle Awards. His film and television credits include appearances in "Boardwalk Empire," "The Blacklist," "Madam Secretary," "NCIS: New Orleans," "Indignation," "The Family Fang," "Blackhat," and "Transamerica."
Burstein returned to Broadway in the Sharr White play "Pictures from Home" and earned another Tony nomination for his role as Herbie in the revival of "Gypsy." He also appeared in "Marjorie Prime" alongside Christopher Lowell, Cynthia Nixon, and June Squibb. With his Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play for "Marjorie Prime," Burstein became the most Tony-nominated male actor in history, surpassing Jason Robards Jr. His career reflects a significant contribution to American theater, with a body of work that spans decades and includes numerous iconic roles.
