
Daniel Zaga Szenker is an economist and a leading voice on macroeconomic analysis and development in Latin America. He serves as the Spanish-Latin America chief economist at Deloitte, where he leads the economic analysis practice at Deloitte Mexico. Zaga has more than 20 years of experience in macroeconomic, sectoral, and regional analysis across Latin America.
Zaga holds a degree in economics from the University of Buenos Aires, a Master of Science from the London School of Economics, and a PhD in development economics from the Graduate Institute of Geneva. He also holds a specialization in econometrics from ITAM in Mexico. This academic background supports his ability to translate complex economic dynamics into insights for business leaders and policymakers.
Before joining Deloitte, Zaga served as deputy director general of competitiveness at Mexico's Secretaría de Economía and as sub-director of financial sector development projects at the Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público. He has also worked as a consultant for the United Nations, as a professor at Universidad de Palermo in Argentina, and for Argentina's Ministry of Economy. In total, he worked for both the Mexican and Argentine governments for more than 10 years in the areas of macroeconomics, competitiveness, and finance.
At Deloitte, Zaga also serves as director of Econosignal, a platform dedicated to evaluating economic trends and generating macroeconomic, sectoral, and regional reports for senior executives across the region. His research and commentary cover topics such as nearshoring opportunities in Mexico, the economic outlook for Argentina, and economic trends across Latin America. His analysis has included assessments of Mexico's economic contribution as a FIFA World Cup host. Zaga frequently speaks at conferences on the economic context and is the author of several economics articles, including academic works such as "Masked Development: Exploring the Hidden Benefits of the Zapatista Conflict" and "The Impact of Three Mexican Nutritional Programs: The Case of Dif-Puebla," published through the Centre for Finance and Development at the Graduate Institute of Geneva. His expertise and research contribute to the understanding of economic forces shaping Latin America.
