A native of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Suárez began his racing career in karting and later drove cross-country from Mexico to Charlotte, North Carolina, to pursue a career in NASCAR. He previously competed in the NASCAR Toyota Series in Mexico for Telcel Racing and in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East for Rev Racing as part of the Drive for Diversity program. Suárez won 10 races in the NASCAR Mexico Series, including five in a single season at age 22.
Suárez became the NASCAR Xfinity Series champion with Joe Gibbs Racing, becoming the first foreign-born driver to win a major NASCAR National Series championship. He secured his first Xfinity Series victory at Michigan International Speedway, becoming the first Mexican-born driver to win a NASCAR national series race, and added wins at Dover International Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway, where he led a race-high 133 laps to clinch the title. During his time in the Xfinity Series, Suárez also earned the Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award.
Following his championship, Suárez made 72 starts in two seasons with Joe Gibbs Racing in the Cup Series, recording 21 top-10 finishes and a best result of second at Pocono Raceway, where he also earned his first NASCAR Cup Series pole. After a season with Gaunt Brothers Racing, Suárez joined Trackhouse Racing Team. He became the first Mexican-born driver to win a Cup Series race with a victory at Sonoma Raceway and followed with wins at Circuit of The Americas and Atlanta Motor Speedway, the latter featuring one of the closest finishes in Cup Series history. Suárez qualified for the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs multiple times and contributed to Trackhouse Racing's emergence as a competitive team.
