Daniel Klier

Dr. Daniel Klier is a sustainability and climate finance leader whose career has spanned influential institutions at the intersection of global finance and environmental action. Daniel Klier began his career at McKinsey & Company, where he was a partner supporting companies to enhance organizational performance and international growth. He then joined HSBC as group head of strategy in London, eventually becoming global head of sustainable finance and group head of strategy at HSBC, where he established the bank's net zero target and ambition to support the energy transition with $1 trillion.

Klier has served as chair of the Bank of England's Climate Working Group and chair of the Institute of International Finance's Sustainable Finance Working Group. He subsequently held the role of chief executive at ESG Book, a data and technology company with offices in Boston, London, Frankfurt, Delhi, Singapore, and Tokyo. As CEO of ESG Book, Klier oversaw the company's growth and established the business as a global industry leader. He then took on the role of CEO at South Pole, a leading player in the global carbon market with more than 850 climate projects worldwide and over 1,000 clients. Klier also serves on the boards of the global sustainability reporting standard GRI and the international organization Sustainable Energy for All.

Klier was appointed chief executive officer of PUR, a pioneer in nature-based solutions founded nearly two decades ago that partners with farming communities globally to deliver agroforestry, reforestation, and landscape restoration projects. These projects generate verified carbon reductions and carbon credits that help corporations reduce supply chain emissions through high-integrity insetting and climate contributions within and beyond their own value chains, while improving soil health, water resources, and long-term farm productivity.

PUR has pioneered climate and nature interventions within value chains, earning recognition as a certified B Corp and a global leader in nature-based solutions, with a presence in more than 20 countries across Latin America, Africa, and Asia. The company supports 93,400 farmers, impacts 72,000 hectares, and has planted more than 43 million trees through initiatives such as agroforestry, land preservation, and sustainable agricultural practices. Klier's appointment underscores PUR's ambition to further strengthen its role as a partner in delivering nature-based solutions directly within global value chains. With more than two decades of expertise, Klier brings a perspective well-suited to leading PUR through its next phase of development. His career trajectory—from McKinsey to HSBC, ESG Book, South Pole, and PUR—positions him as a prominent voice in global sustainability and climate finance.
