Daniel Hudson

Daniel Hudson is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher whose 16-season career is recognized for perseverance and resilience. Drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the fifth round, Hudson advanced quickly through the minor leagues, earning a promotion to the majors after posting a 14–5 record and a 2.32 ERA with 166 strikeouts across four levels. After a mid-season trade to the Arizona Diamondbacks, Hudson delivered a 7–1 record with a 1.69 ERA over the final two months of the season and received Rookie of the Year honors from the Arizona Chapter of the BBWAA.

Hudson's first full season with the Diamondbacks established him as a leading National League starter. He finished with a 16–12 record, a 3.49 ERA, and 169 strikeouts over 222 innings, and led all pitchers with 18 hits and 14 RBIs, earning the Silver Slugger Award as the top batter at his position. He contributed to the team's National League (NL) West division title. However, Hudson's career was interrupted by injury, requiring Tommy John surgery and a subsequent second procedure after re-tearing his ulnar collateral ligament during rehab. Hudson became one of the few pitchers to undergo consecutive ligament replacement surgeries and return to MLB.

Following his recovery, Hudson transitioned from a starting role to the bullpen. He played a significant role in the Washington Nationals' World Series victory over the Houston Astros, going 3–0 with six saves and a 1.44 ERA in 24 relief appearances after being acquired at the trade deadline. Hudson closed out Game 7 of the World Series, striking out two of three batters in the ninth inning to secure the championship for the Nationals.

Hudson faced further challenges, including an ACL tear during a game against the Atlanta Braves that required season-ending surgery. After considering retirement, he returned to pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers, recording a 3.00 ERA in 63 regular-season innings in his final season. Hudson retired following the Dodgers' World Series win.

Over 16 seasons, Hudson appeared in 547 games, compiling a career record of 65 wins and 45 losses, a 3.74 ERA, and 817 strikeouts over 855.1 innings. He concluded his MLB career with the NL Silver Slugger Award and two World Series championships.
