Daniel Diermeier

Currently serving as the 9th Chancellor of Vanderbilt University, Daniel Diermeier has held illustrious positions in academia including the Provost of the University of Chicago from 2016 to 2020 and the Dean of the Harris School of Public Policy from 2014 to 2016. His leadership has been recognized with a contract extension as Chancellor of Vanderbilt University until 2035. Diermeier's contribution to academia has been far-reaching with over 100 research articles and four books, significantly impacting fields such as political science, economics, and management.

Diermeier's work has earned him prestigious accolades including a Guggenheim Fellowship in political science in 2014, and the honor of being named Alumni Professor of the Year by Northwestern Kellogg in 2013. In 2023, the Carnegie Corporation of New York recognized him with a Great Immigrants Award. Further solidifying his standing in academia, he is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a research fellow at the Canadian Institute of Advanced Research (CIFAR).

Outside of academia, Diermeier has made his mark by serving on the boards of several prominent organizations, such as the University of Chicago Medical Center and the Argonne National Laboratory. His expertise has also been sought after by various governments, nonprofit organizations, and corporations, including Abbott, Accenture, and Allianz. Under his leadership, the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy received $32.5 million in gifts and saw a significant increase in early action applications for the academic year 2018-2019.
