Damon Hill

Damon Hill OBE is a prominent figure in British motorsport, known for his achievements as a Formula One driver and as a Formula One World Champion. Hill made history as the first son of a world champion to win the championship, following in the footsteps of his father, Graham Hill, who also claimed the World Drivers' Championship. After the death of his father in an aeroplane crash, Hill began his motorsport journey working as a motorcycle courier and competing in motorcycle racing before transitioning to car racing.

Hill's racing career spanned 14 years and included competition in British Formula 3, Formula 3000, the British Touring Car Championship, and Formula One. He served as a test driver for the Williams Formula One team before being promoted to the race team, where he secured his first Grand Prix victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Hill engaged in a notable championship battle with Michael Schumacher, finishing as runner-up in consecutive seasons. Driving the FW18, Hill secured the Drivers' Championship with eight wins in a single season. During his tenure with Williams, he achieved 21 of his 22 career Grand Prix victories, 20 pole positions, and 19 fastest laps. Hill was twice voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year. He also delivered Jordan's first Formula One win at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Following his retirement from Formula One, Hill took on leadership roles, including serving as President of the British Racing Drivers' Club, where he contributed to the long-term future of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. He became a member of the Sky Sports F1 broadcasting team, providing analysis and commentary to global audiences. Hill has also held the role of Ambassador for the Williams F1 Team.

Outside of racing, Hill has spoken openly about personal challenges, including loss, grief, and depression. In his autobiography, "Watching the Wheels," he recounts his experiences in motorsport and his journey as the son of a world champion. Hill addresses themes of resilience, legacy, and determination, offering insights into both the sport and the human experience.
