DOMi & JD BECK are a genre-bending jazz duo who have quickly made waves in the modern jazz scene. The pair consists of French keyboardist Domitille “Domi” Degalle and American drummer James Dennis “JD” Beck, who first met in 2018 at the NAMM music trade show and began collaborating after an impromptu jam session revealed their instant musical chemistry. Domi, a prodigy who began playing piano and drums at age three, studied at the Conservatoire in France and later at Berklee College of Music, while JD, who started on piano at five before switching to drums at nine, honed his craft in Dallas under the guidance of top-tier musicians, including members of Erykah Badu’s band. Their explosive debut album, NOT TiGHT, released in 2022, blends ’70s jazz, hip-hop rhythms, video game-inspired sounds, and intricate harmonies, and features high-profile collaborators like Anderson .Paak, Herbie Hancock, Thundercat, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Mac DeMarco, and Kurt Rosenwinkel. The album earned two Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.
