Current Swell

Current Swell is a Canadian indie folk and roots rock band based in Victoria, British Columbia. The group, formed by Scott Stanton, Dave Lang, Ghosty Boy, and Chris Petersen, is recognized for its genre-blending sound that incorporates blues-rock, folk, surf, indie rock, reggae, and ska. Current Swell began as a group of friends jamming and writing music, performing in backyards and on beaches before gaining popularity through an online presence and a dedicated internet fan base. The band sold out its first show after a five-song EP released online attracted attention from high school students on northern Vancouver Island, turning a modest coffee shop booking into a packed event.

Current Swell has released several albums, including "So I Say," "Trust Us Now," "Protect Your Own," "Long Time Ago," "Ulysses," "When to Talk and When to Listen," "Buffalo," and "Peacekeeper." The single "Young and Able" from "Protect Your Own" gained significant traction on YouTube, helping the band reach a wider audience in North America. "Long Time Ago" marked their first worldwide release, further establishing their presence in the indie rock and folk music scenes.

The band placed first at Vancouver's Peak Performance Project, earning the top prize and performing at major events such as a Canada Day concert at the British Columbia Legislature and the Ottawa Bluesfest. Current Swell has opened for acts including The Beach Boys, Xavier Rudd, Dispatch, Bedouin Soundclash, and The Beautiful Girls, and has appeared at the Winter Olympics. The band's following extends internationally, with a significant fan base in South America, particularly Brazil, where they have headlined shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Current Swell's music is characterized by its authenticity and connection to upbeat folk roots, contributing to their reputation as a leading live act from the Canadian west coast. The band has amassed millions of streams and sold out tours across North America, Brazil, and Europe, maintaining a strong presence in the indie folk and roots rock genres.
