Cristian Massacesi

Cristian Massacesi is a medical oncologist and pharmaceutical executive, serving as chief medical officer and oncology chief development officer at AstraZeneca. With more than 20 years of experience in drug development at global pharmaceutical companies, Massacesi has contributed to advancing AstraZeneca’s oncology pipeline and expanding its late-stage clinical development portfolio. His responsibilities include oversight of a global team managing more than 160 clinical studies across cancer indications such as breast, lung, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and gynecological cancers. Before joining AstraZeneca, Massacesi held senior clinical development roles at Pfizer and Novartis, contributing to multiple worldwide regulatory submissions and approvals.

Massacesi is recognized for his work in precision medicine and patient-guided drug development. During his tenure, AstraZeneca’s oncology division expanded its late-stage programs and established dedicated clinical operations teams worldwide. He has authored 50 peer-reviewed papers, more than 100 conference abstracts, and holds several patents for cancer treatment regimens.
