Clifford S. Asness Biography
Cliff Asness is the managing and founding principal at AQR Capital Management, a global investment management firm specializing in quantitative investing and asset management. Before co-founding AQR, Asness served as managing director and director of quantitative research for the asset management division at Goldman Sachs & Co. He has authored numerous articles on financial markets, quantitative finance, and investment strategies, with work published in Journal of Portfolio Management and Financial Analysts Journal.
Asness has received multiple honors, including five Bernstein Fabozzi/Jacobs Levy Awards from Journal of Portfolio Management and the James R. Vertin Award from CFA Institute. He has also been recognized with the Graham and Dodd Award for best paper twice, a Graham and Dodd Excellence Award, the award for best perspectives piece, and the Graham & Dodd Readers’ Choice Award.
Asness serves on several boards, including American Enterprise Institute and the editorial board of Journal of Portfolio Management. He holds a Bachelor of Science in economics and engineering from University of Pennsylvania, graduating summa cum laude, as well as an MBA with high honors and a doctorate in finance from University of Chicago, where he studied under Eugene Fama and served as his teaching assistant.
