Clement Bezold

Clement Bezold is a political scientist, futurist, and author. Bezold is recognized as a pioneer in the development of foresight and strategic forecasting techniques, helping organizations anticipate long-term social, technological, and economic trends.

He is founder of the Institute for Alternative Futures (IAF), an organization he established in 1977 to advance the use of foresight and scenario planning in public and private decision-making. In 1982, he founded Alternative Futures Associates, a for-profit consulting affiliate that applied futures research and strategic planning methods to corporate and institutional strategy development.

His consulting work has supported a wide range of clients, including Fortune 500 companies and global and nonprofit institutions such as the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health, the Rockefeller Foundation, AARP, and the American Cancer Society.

He has authored and contributed to numerous publications examining the future of government, healthcare, and judicial systems. In addition to his research and writing, Bezold serves in editorial and advisory roles for several scholarly journals, including Journal of Futures Studies, Technology Forecasting and Social Change, foresight, and World Future Review.

Bezold earned his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Florida. Earlier in his career, he served as assistant director of the Center for Governmental Responsibility at the University of Florida Levin College of Law and was a Visiting Scholar at the Brookings Institution.

Through his work at IAF and beyond, Bezold has remained a leading voice in applying futures thinking to improve policy, healthcare planning, and organizational strategy.
