Christopher Bishop

Christopher Bishop is a technology futurist, TEDx speaker, author, and chief reinvention officer of Improvising Careers, a career consulting firm focused on the future of work. Bishop is known for his diverse professional background, which includes experience as an IBM executive, touring rock musician, deep tech master of ceremonies, workplace consultant, and quantum podcast host. His career spans multiple industries, from performing with rock bands to driving innovation at IBM and exploring advancements in quantum technologies.

Bishop spent 15 years at IBM in various strategy and executive communications roles before transitioning to help professionals prepare for the evolving workforce. He developed a live-action course for LinkedIn Learning titled "Future-proofing Your Data Science Career" and co-authored a white paper with MIT Media Lab professor Sandy Pentland, "Blockchain+AI+Human," which explores the business and socio-cultural implications of integrating artificial intelligence and blockchain. Bishop also completed a practitioner residency at the Rockefeller Foundation's Bellagio Center, where he created workshop materials for his "Improvising Careers" strategy, designed to equip learners for success in the 21st-century job market.

Bishop is the author of "Improvising Careers: Succeed at Jobs That Don't Exist Yet," a career roadmap offering tools for navigating technological innovation and planning nonlinear, multimodal career paths. The book introduces the VOICE, ANTENNA, and MESH framework, providing a scalable and adaptable approach to managing multiple careers in the technology sector.

Bishop writes and speaks on topics such as quantum information science, artificial intelligence, cryptoassets, blockchain, fintech, augmented and virtual reality, and robotics, with a focus on their impact on the workforce. He is a frequent conference host and moderator, particularly within the global quantum technology community. Bishop has served as emcee and panel leader for Inside Quantum Technology conferences and The Economist's "Commercialising Quantum" events in London and Silicon Valley, as well as at conferences in Dubai, Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, New York, Paris, Singapore, and San Francisco. He hosts the Quantum Tech Pod, where he has interviewed more than 76 C-suite executives from leading quantum companies, with episodes available on Apple Music and Spotify. Bishop is also a member of the Quantum Economic Development Consortium, contributing to the Workforce Technology Advisory Committee.

In addition to his industry work, Bishop serves as a guest lecturer at institutions such as St Cross College, Oxford, and Bayes Business School. He has participated in Baruch College's Executives on Campus program, providing career coaching to students, and leads workshops like "How to Succeed at Jobs That Don't Exist," engaging managers exploring new career opportunities.
