Christian Borle

Christian Borle is a Grammy and two-time Tony Award-winning actor known for his work in Broadway musicals, plays, and television. Borle won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his role as Shakespeare in "Something Rotten!" and Best Featured Actor in a Play for his performance as Black Stache in "Peter and the Starcatcher." He attended the School of Drama at Carnegie Mellon University and began his Broadway career as an ensemble member in "Jesus Christ Superstar" before moving into leading roles.

Borle's Broadway credits include originating roles in productions such as "Monty Python's Spamalot," where he played Prince Herbert, the Historian, Not Dead Fred, a French Guard, and Sir Robin's Minstrel. He is also recognized for originating the role of Emmett Forrest in "Legally Blonde," earning a Tony Award nomination, and for his performance as Marvin in the Broadway revival of "Falsettos," which also garnered a Tony nomination. Additional roles include Bert in "Mary Poppins," Willy Wonka in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and Orin Scrivello, DDS, in "Little Shop of Horrors" at the Westside Theater, for which he received the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical.

Borle has played Jim Bakker in "Tammy Faye" on Broadway and Joe/Josephine in "Some Like It Hot," earning a Tony nomination for the latter. He contributed additional material and received a Grammy Award for the cast album of "Some Like It Hot." On television, Borle starred as Tom Levitt on the NBC musical-drama series "Smash" and as Vox in the animated series "Hazbin Hotel." He also appeared as Max Dettweiler in the live television production of "The Sound of Music Live!" and as Mr. Darling and Mr. Smee in "Peter Pan Live!"

Borle's work in theater extends to directing, with credits including "Popcorn Falls" at the Davenport Theater, "Footloose" at The MUNY, and "Tale as Old as Time," a tribute to Howard Ashman at 92Y's Lyrics & Lyricists series. He has also written the play "Hammered: A Thor & Loki Play." Borle is recognized for his versatility in musical theater, acting, and directing, and for originating roles that have become defining productions in contemporary American theater.
