Chrissy Marshall

Chrissy Marshall is a Los Angeles-based writer and director whose work focuses on community, innovation, and equity in the entertainment industry. Marshall is an alumna of the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts and the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her projects often explore vulnerable human experiences, existential humor, and dynamic character-driven storytelling. As a Disabled Queer woman, Marshall draws on her personal experiences and fluency in English and American Sign Language to create stories and characters that highlight disability and underrepresented perspectives.

Marshall has written and directed several short films, including "I.L.Y.," "Hardly What You Want to Hear," and "Rain in My Head." "Hardly What You Want to Hear" is a sci-fi thriller about a newly engaged hard-of-hearing woman whose hearing aid is hacked. Her short films have received recognition from Film Independent, ReelAbilities, Indiex, and the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge, where "Rain in My Head" won awards for editing, directing, and film, and "I.L.Y." received the Awareness Campaign Award presented by Prime Video.

Her independent work includes ASL-signed music videos and a dance short addressing the concept of "Inspiration Porn" within the disability community. Marshall has participated in fellowships such as the CBS Pipeline Challenge, Lights Camera Access, and Disability Belongs, further developing her skills as a writer and creative collaborator. She was also selected for the Sony Pictures Television Diverse Directors and Writers Cohort.

In addition to her filmmaking, Marshall advocates for Deaf and hard-of-hearing children and promotes accessibility and signed languages in media. She has campaigned for Deaf actors to portray Deaf roles and for accurate representation of Deaf experiences in scripts. Marshall has also pushed for the inclusion of captions on social media videos to improve accessibility. With a following of more than 1.4 million on TikTok, she produces content such as "Getting a Cochlear Implant," "Dos and Don'ts of Interacting with the Deaf Community," and "Hearing Parents Perspective on Raising a Deaf Child." Marshall’s work centers on disability representation, accessibility, and inclusive storytelling in film, television, and digital media.
