Chris Webber is recognized as a versatile power forward in professional basketball, known for his scoring, rebounding, and passing abilities that contributed to evolving the role of big men in the NBA. Selected first overall in the NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic and immediately traded to the Golden State Warriors, Webber made an early impact by averaging 17.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game and earning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. Prior to his NBA career, Webber was a key member of the University of Michigan's "Fab Five," alongside Jimmy King, Ray Jackson, Juwan Howard, and Jalen Rose. The group became a cultural phenomenon, influencing college basketball with their athleticism, style, and approach to the game, and reaching consecutive Final Four appearances.
Webber's professional career peaked during his tenure with the Sacramento Kings, where he became a five-time NBA All-Star and earned multiple All-NBA selections. His leadership and performance were central to the Kings' playoff runs and the team's rise as a contender in the league. Webber is among a select group of players in NBA history to average 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists over his career. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
After retiring from basketball, Webber transitioned into broadcasting, serving as an analyst for TNT's "Inside the NBA." He also pursued academic roles, teaching sports storytelling at Wake Forest University and athlete activism at Morehouse College. Webber appeared in the film "Uncle Drew" and participated in a special alternate broadcast with the Fab Five for a Michigan Wolverines Final Four game, contributing to sports media and college basketball culture.
Webber has also established himself in entrepreneurship and social equity, co-founding Players Only Holdings, a cannabis operations and training facility in Detroit. He has been involved in initiatives supporting minority entrepreneurs in the cannabis industry, including managing a fund to assist new cannabis retailers in New York. As a keynote speaker, Webber addresses topics such as literacy, social activism, philanthropy, and Black heritage, drawing on his experiences in professional sports, broadcasting, and business to discuss leadership and social change.
