Chris Spielman

Chris Spielman is recognized as one of the most accomplished linebackers in American football. Before his professional career, Spielman became the first high school athlete to have his picture on a box of Wheaties. He attended The Ohio State University, where he played as a linebacker for the Buckeyes, recording 546 tackles, including a school-record 283 solo tackles. He led the team in tackles twice and contributed to two Big Ten championships. Spielman earned Consensus All-American honors and was a Unanimous All-American, winning the Lombardi Award as the nation's top lineman or linebacker. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Spielman was selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the NFL Draft and quickly became a key part of the team's defense. He played eight seasons with the Lions, contributing to four playoff appearances, two NFC Central titles, and a berth in the NFC Championship Game. Spielman is the franchise's all-time leader in career tackles with 1,138. He was named first-team All-Pro, twice a second-team All-Pro, and was selected to four Pro Bowls. Spielman led the NFL in combined tackles and solo stops during his career. The Detroit Lions honored him by inducting him into their Pride of the Lions club, which recognizes the greatest players in franchise history.

After a neck injury ended his playing career, Spielman transitioned to football broadcasting. He began as an NFL studio-show analyst for Fox Sports Net and later joined ESPN as a color analyst for college football broadcasts and as a studio analyst. Spielman also served as a game analyst for Fox NFL coverage. His broadcasting career established him as a credible voice in football media, known for his preparation and insight.

Outside of football, Spielman has advocated for cancer awareness and research. Following his late wife Stefanie's battle with breast cancer, the Spielman family established the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research, raising significant funds for cancer research and support services. Spielman has also served the Detroit Lions in a front office role as special assistant to the president/CEO and chairperson, contributing to executive hiring decisions. His career spans football, sports broadcasting, and philanthropy, reflecting a commitment to leadership and community impact.
