Chris Simms

Chris Simms is a former NFL quarterback and sports media personality known for his football analysis and insider perspective. Simms is the son of New York Giants quarterback and Super Bowl XXI MVP Phil Simms, a background that has influenced his approach to football broadcasting. Before entering the media industry, Simms played for the University of Texas, where he set school records for career completion percentage and pass efficiency rating, and ranked among the all-time leaders in career touchdown passes and passing yards for the Longhorns.

Simms was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round of the NFL Draft after his college career. He also played for the Denver Broncos and the Tennessee Titans during a professional career marked by both resilience and on-field performance. During a game against the Carolina Panthers, Simms suffered a season-ending injury, returned to the field to lead a scoring drive, but was later hospitalized with a ruptured spleen and underwent emergency surgery. He later stated that he lost five pints of blood before the operation and that another 45 minutes without treatment could have been fatal. His recovery and return to football underscored his determination and commitment to the sport.

After retiring as a player, Simms transitioned to coaching, serving as a coaching assistant for the New England Patriots under Bill Belichick. This experience provided him with insight into NFL operations, which would later inform his work as a football analyst. Simms joined Bleacher Report as an NFL analyst and served as a color commentator for the NFL on CBS, working alongside his father as part of the CBS broadcasting team. He later joined NBC Sports, where he contributed to NFL and college football coverage, including roles as an analyst for "Football Night in America" and Notre Dame football, and as co-host of "ProFootballTalk Live."

Simms also co-hosts the podcast "Chris Simms Unbuttoned," which focuses on quarterback evaluation and NFL analysis. He completed multiple seasons as an analyst on "Football Night in America" and participated in the Super Bowl LX Pregame Show on NBC and Peacock. With experience as a player, coach, and broadcaster, Simms offers a comprehensive perspective on football, providing in-depth analysis and commentary for audiences across sports media platforms.
