Chris Sale

Chris Sale is a left-handed pitcher known for his strikeout ability, career milestones, and resilience throughout his Major League Baseball career. Sale was selected by the Chicago White Sox as the 13th overall pick in the MLB Draft and made his debut later that year. Initially working out of the bullpen, he transitioned to the starting rotation and earned five consecutive All-Star selections with the White Sox. During his tenure in Chicago, Sale set a franchise record with 274 strikeouts in a single season, surpassing the previous mark held by Ed Walsh.

The Boston Red Sox acquired Sale in a trade that involved several top prospects. In his first season with Boston, Sale recorded 308 strikeouts, becoming only the second pitcher in Red Sox history to reach 300 strikeouts in a season. He also became the fastest pitcher to reach 2,000 career strikeouts, achieving the milestone in 1,626 innings and surpassing Pedro Martinez's record. Sale played a pivotal role in the Red Sox's World Series championship, recording the final three outs of the clinching game.

Sale's time in Boston was impacted by injuries, including Tommy John surgery that sidelined him for an entire season and limited his innings in subsequent years. After signing a five-year, $145 million contract extension, he pitched 151 innings across three seasons. Following his recovery, Sale was traded to the Atlanta Braves.

With the Braves, Sale won the National League pitching Triple Crown and earned his first Cy Young Award at age 35. He posted a 2.38 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and a 225:39 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 177.2 innings, finishing with an 18-3 record. His achievements that season included a National League Gold Glove Award, an ERA title, and the NL Comeback Player of the Year award.

Sale continued to reach significant milestones, becoming the fastest pitcher in MLB history to reach 2,500 career strikeouts and the 10th pitcher to record at least 500 strikeouts with three different teams. He was named to the National League All-Star roster for the 10th time.
