Chris Cocks is the chief executive officer and board member of Hasbro Inc., a Fortune 500 global leader in games, intellectual property, and toys. A graduate of Harvard University, Cocks began his career in brand management at Procter & Gamble before moving into the technology and gaming industries. He held senior management roles at Microsoft Corporation, where he guided marketing strategies for Xbox Games franchises including "Halo" and "Fable," and served as vice president of OEM technical sales. Cocks also served as vice president of educational games at LeapFrog, overseeing the company's $250 million learning games unit.
Cocks joined Hasbro as president and chief operating officer of Wizards of the Coast, the subsidiary behind brands such as "Magic: The Gathering," "Dungeons & Dragons," and "Duel Masters." During his tenure, Wizards of the Coast more than doubled its revenue, surpassing $1 billion, and became one of Hasbro's top revenue drivers. His approach to customer segmentation contributed to consecutive record growth for "Magic: The Gathering," while "Dungeons & Dragons" expanded its global fan base to more than 85 million. Cocks led the division's digital transformation, integrating digital research and development and online gaming teams into a unified digital games studio.
Following the passing of Brian Goldner, Cocks was appointed CEO of Hasbro and led the company through a significant strategic transformation. His "Playing to Win" strategy refocused Hasbro on its core strengths in play and gaming, shifting away from an entertainment-centric approach. He oversaw the divestiture of the eOne film and TV business and redirected investment toward digital gaming, establishing a network of video game studios and investing nearly $1 billion in first-party game development, including titles based on "G.I. Joe," "Dungeons & Dragons," and "Exodus." Under Cocks' leadership, Hasbro became the top intellectual property licensor in digital gaming, supported by the success of mobile game "Monopoly GO!" and "Baldur's Gate III."
A lifelong gamer who has played "Dungeons & Dragons" since the early 1980s and "Magic: The Gathering" since the mid-1990s, Cocks brings a fan's perspective to corporate leadership. He has discussed how his experience as a Dungeon Master has influenced his management philosophy, emphasizing trust, team dynamics, and constructive disagreement. Cocks led Hasbro's decision to relocate its corporate headquarters to Boston's Seaport District while maintaining a West Coast hub in Renton, Washington, for gaming and digital operations. He also serves on the board of directors for Molson Coors and Brown University Health, as well as the board of trustees of The Paley Center for Media.
