Chiaka Ogbogu

Chiaka Ogbogu is a celebrated middle blocker currently competing for LOVB Austin and a mainstay of the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team since 2018. She starred at Coppell High School in Texas, leading the team to consecutive Class 5A state championships in 2011 and 2012 and earning Gatorade Texas Player of the Year honors as a senior with stellar stats—486 kills, 144 blocks, and a .555 kill percentage.

At the University of Texas, Ogbogu rewrote the school’s record books as a three-time AVCA First-Team All-American (2014, ’15, ’17) and the 2017 Big 12 Player of the Year, finishing her college career as Texas’ all-time leader in career blocks and block assists. Upon joining the senior national team in 2018, she helped Team USA capture gold at the 2018 Pan American Cup, gold at the 2019 FIVB Nations League, and silver at the 2019 World Cup and NORCECA Championship.

Ogbogu’s Olympic pedigree includes a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games and a silver medal at Paris 2024. She has competed in top-tier leagues in Italy, Poland, and Turkey—including playing for VakıfBank in Istanbul—and currently excels in the U.S.-based LOVB league, where in 2025 she earned the Middle Blocker of the Year award and a spot on the LOVB Icons First Team for LOVB Austin.

Off the court, Ogbogu is passionate about social justice and representation in sport as a member of USA Volleyball’s DEI Committee. She embraces her Igbo heritage (her name means “God decides” in Igbo), actively engaging with her Nigerian roots and championing visibility for Black volleyball players worldwide.
