Cherry Jones

Cherry Jones is an actress recognized for her work in theater, television, and film. Jones began her career as a founding member of the American Repertory Theater before transitioning into film and television. A graduate of the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, she developed her craft across numerous productions before making her Broadway debut in "Stepping Out."

Jones is a five-time Tony Award nominee, winning for her performances in the revival of "The Heiress" and the original production of "Doubt." Her portrayal of Catherine Sloper in "The Heiress" and Sister Aloysius in John Patrick Shanley's play "Doubt" earned her Tony Awards for Best Actress in a Play. Additional Tony nominations include roles in "Our Country's Good," "A Moon for the Misbegotten," and "The Glass Menagerie." Jones made her West End debut in the revival of Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie," which received multiple Olivier Award nominations, including Best Actress for Jones. She has been inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.

Jones expanded her audience through television, notably portraying President Allison Taylor on the FOX series "24," a role that earned her a Primetime Emmy Award. She also appeared as Barbara Layton in "The West Wing" and had a recurring role in the Amazon series "Transparent." Jones received two additional Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her roles in the Hulu series "The Handmaid's Tale" and the HBO series "Succession." In 2026, she guest-starred on "Widow's Bay" and earned herself a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.

In film, Jones's credits include "The Horse Whisperer," "Erin Brockovich," "The Perfect Storm," "Signs," "The Village," "Ocean's Twelve," "Amelia," "The Beaver," "A Rainy Day in New York," and "The Eyes of Tammy Faye." She has also appeared in "Boy Erased," Sally Potter's "The Party," Amy Poehler's "Wine Country," and "Motherless Brooklyn." Jones has narrated audiobook adaptations of Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House" series and has served as a reader for National Public Radio's Selected Shorts program, demonstrating her commitment to the spoken word and storytelling across multiple media.
