Charles Esten

Charles Esten is an actor, musician, singer-songwriter, and comedian known for his work across television, film, theater, and country music. Professionally recognized as Charles Esten and as Chip Esten on improvisation shows, he has developed a multifaceted career in acting, music, and comedy. Esten made his theatrical debut in London, portraying Buddy Holly in the West End musical "Buddy," where he sang, acted, and played guitar. His performance in "Buddy" led to appearances before Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, and at the White House for President and Mrs. George H.W. Bush. During this period, Esten first appeared on the original British version of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" and later became a recurring cast member and frequent song improvisor when the show moved to ABC.

Esten played country singer Deacon Claybourne on the drama "Nashville," a role that contributed to his own music career. He appeared in 124 episodes of the series. He also portrayed Ward Cameron on the teen drama "Outer Banks," expanding his audience to a global demographic. His film credits include "Swing Vote," "Thirteen Days," "61*" and "The Postman." Early television work featured recurring roles in "Big Love," "Enlightened," "The Office," and "ER," as well as a starring role as the father on Disney Channel's "Jessie."

Esten's debut independent album, "Love Ain't Pretty," was shaped by his experiences on "Nashville" and touring with the Nashville The Reunion Tour. He co-wrote all 14 songs on the album and contributed acoustic guitar. His music, characterized by a country sound, has accumulated more than 34 million streams. Esten holds a Guinness World Records title for the most consecutive weeks to release an original digital single by a music act, delivering 54 original songs in 54 straight weeks. He has performed more than 185 times at the Grand Ole Opry, including appearances at the Ryman Auditorium and Royal Albert Hall, as well as at festivals such as Stagecoach, the CMAs, and C2C.

Esten has also participated in "Nashville" — The Reunion Tour, performing with cast members at sold-out venues across the United States. In addition to his entertainment career, Esten is involved in philanthropy, serving as National Honorary Spokesperson for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk and as a board member of Musicians On Call. He regularly performs for patients and caregivers in hospitals, hospice centers, and VA facilities. With a career spanning West End theater, network television, streaming platforms, and the Grand Ole Opry, Esten maintains a presence in acting, country music, and live performance.
