Cecil Fielder

Cecil Grant Fielder is a former professional baseball first baseman and designated hitter known for his power hitting in Major League Baseball. Fielder attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas before beginning a professional career that spanned more than a decade. At Nogales High School in California, he was a two-time California all-state baseball player and also earned all-state honors in football and basketball.

Fielder played part-time for the Toronto Blue Jays, demonstrating power by hitting 14 home runs in 175 at-bats in one season. After his contract was sold to the Hanshin Tigers in Japan, Fielder adjusted to Japanese baseball culture with the support of manager Minoru Murayama and Junichi Kashiwabara. As the Tigers' cleanup hitter, he hit 38 home runs, drawing attention from both Japanese fans and MLB scouts.

Returning to Major League Baseball, Fielder signed with the Detroit Tigers, where he established himself as a leading power hitter. In his first season with Detroit, he hit 51 home runs and recorded 132 RBIs, becoming the first player to reach the 50-home run mark since George Foster and the first American League player to do so since Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Fielder led the league in RBIs for three consecutive years, matching a feat last accomplished by Babe Ruth. During his time with Detroit, he was a three-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger Award winner, two-time American League home run champion, and a three-time American League RBI champion. He was named Tiger of the Year by the Detroit chapter of the BBWAA for three consecutive seasons, the only player to receive the award in three straight years.

Fielder was later traded to the New York Yankees, contributing to the team's World Series championship. Over his career, Fielder batted .255 with 319 home runs, 1,008 RBIs, and a .482 slugging average. He was inducted into the Ted Williams Hitters Hall of Fame and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. Fielder and his son, Prince Fielder, are the only father-son duo in MLB history to each have 50-home run seasons, highlighting their impact on professional baseball. After his playing career, Fielder has been involved in youth baseball development, running the Cecil Fielder Elite World Series and The Baseball Legends to promote young athletes in the United States and Mexico.
