Catherine Rampell

Catherine Rampell is an economics journalist, anchor, and commentator known for her data-driven approach to complex policy issues in American financial and political media. Rampell serves as economics editor at The Bulwark and as an anchor at MS NOW, focusing on economics, politics, public policy, and immigration, with an emphasis on data-driven journalism. She is also a contributor to the public radio show Marketplace and serves on advisory boards for the Journal of Economic Perspectives and the American Family Survey at Brigham Young University. Rampell is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Rampell graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology, where she worked as a research assistant to economist Alan Krueger. She began her career at Chronicle of Higher Education before running an economics blog at The New York Times, where she served as an economics reporter, founding editor of the "Economix" blog, and columnist for the New York Times Magazine's "It's the Economy" column. She also contributed as a drama critic for the newspaper.

Rampell joined The Washington Post as an opinion columnist, becoming one of the youngest in the field. Her work as a nationally syndicated columnist addressed economic and political issues with a fact-based, analytical approach. Rampell has received the Online Journalism Award for Commentary and the Weidenbaum Center Award for Evidence-Based Journalism, and is a seven-time Gerald Loeb Award finalist. Her keynotes are recognized for combining analysis, humor, and observations supported by data, addressing audiences across the political spectrum and encouraging dialogue on economic and public policy issues.
