Cassandra Freeman

Cassandra Freeman is an actress, writer, and entrepreneur whose career encompasses film, television, and stage. Freeman earned an MFA in acting from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Upon graduating, she was cast opposite Denzel Washington in Spike Lee's crime thriller "Inside Man," an experience she has described as a master class taught by Lee and Washington. Freeman continued to build a diverse body of work with roles in Chris Rock's "I Think I Love My Wife," Netflix's Marvel series "Luke Cage," FX's "Atlanta," and VH1's "Single Ladies." She has also performed on stage, including in August Wilson's "Seven Guitars" at Signature Theatre Company in New York City.

Freeman is widely recognized for her role as Vivian Banks in Peacock's dramatic reimagining "Bel-Air," a series that ran for four seasons. As the third actress to portray the character, following Janet Hubert and Daphne Maxwell Reid, Freeman developed an original interpretation of Vivian Banks—a retired artist who supports her husband's political career while reclaiming her own identity. Her performance earned recognition for its nuance and depth, contributing to the cast's "Best Ensemble" honor at the AAFCA TV Awards.

During the final season of "Bel-Air," Freeman facilitated the guest appearance of Janet Hubert as a doula in a storyline addressing Vivian's late-in-life pregnancy. This arc highlighted Black maternal healthcare challenges, a topic Freeman has addressed in public forums. The season received seven NAACP Image Award nominations, including "Outstanding Drama Series." Freeman also appeared in Will Smith's music video for "Pretty Girls" during the show's run.

In addition to her on-screen work, Freeman is active in the entertainment industry as co-founder and chief innovation officer of Creatricity, a members-only community and technology platform connecting entertainment professionals and supporting BIPOC creatives. She has served as a senior executive coach at GK Training and Communications, guest lectured at institutions such as Vassar, the New York Film Academy, and Rutgers, and founded the Kassandra Arts Project, a nonprofit focused on empowering underprivileged children through creative expression. Freeman is also a practicing visual artist, often noting that painting is central to her personal life—a passion reflected in her character's journey on "Bel-Air." Freeman's career continues to span entrepreneurship, advocacy, and stage work, establishing her as a multidimensional presence in American entertainment.
