Caroline Kitchener Biography
Caroline Kitchener is a national political reporter at The Washington Post, where she focuses on abortion and reproductive rights. She received the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in recognition of her powerful and empathetic coverage of the fallout from the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Her work is known for its deep storytelling and insightful analysis of the legal, political, and social dimensions of reproductive health in the United States.
Kitchener joined The Washington Post in 2019, initially writing for The Lily, the publication’s platform dedicated to issues facing women. In 2021, she transitioned to the national politics team, where she has continued to lead coverage on abortion access and policy.
She is the author of Post Grad: Five Women and Their First Year Out of College, a nonfiction book examining the lives of young women as they navigate the challenges of post-college adulthood. Kitchener earned her degree in history and gender studies from Princeton University and currently lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband and two cats.
