Carmelita Jeter

Carmelita Jeter is a well-known retired sprinter who made her mark in the world of athletics through her performances in the 60 meters, 100 meters, and 200 meters events. She was the 2011 world champion in the 100 meters event and the 2012 Olympic silver medalist in the same. Her personal best in the 100 meters is 10.64 seconds, ranking her the fifth fastest woman ever in the event. Jeter's impressive achievements also include setting a championship record at the 2009 IAAF World Athletics Final in Thessaloniki, Greece, and running the 100 meters in 10.64 seconds at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix in 2009.

Aside from her individual accomplishments, Jeter was a strong team player. She was a part of the USA team that won the Olympic gold medal in the women's 4 × 100 meters relay in 2012. Jeter also contributed to the success of the World Championship winning teams in the women's 4 × 100 meters relay in 2007 and 2011. Her ability to work in teams and deliver results led to her recognition as the "Fastest woman alive" from 2009 to 2021, and the recipient of the Women's Jesse Owens Award in 2011.

After retiring from competitive running in 2017 due to an injury, Jeter transitioned into coaching. As of May 2023, she serves as the head coach of the track & field and cross country programs at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
