Camryn Bynum

Camryn Bynum is a professional NFL safety known for his reliability and versatility as a defensive back. Bynum played college football at the University of California, Berkeley, where he began as a cornerback and led the Golden Bears in passes defensed for three consecutive seasons. He started all 12 games in his first active season at Cal and earned the team's Most Valuable Freshman Award. Bynum was named team captain and received second-team All-Pac-12 honors, later earning first-team All-Pac-12 recognition as a senior. He was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.

Bynum transitioned from cornerback in college to safety in the NFL, a move that proved effective for his professional career. He became a full-time starter in his second season with the Vikings, playing every defensive snap and recording two interceptions with 81 tackles. In one season, Bynum forced three fumbles and tallied 137 tackles, ranking fifth among safeties over the past decade. That year, he posted career highs in tackles, passes defensed, and forced fumbles, becoming one of only four players—and the only defensive back—with at least 135 tackles and nine passes defensed. In his final year with Minnesota, Bynum set a career high with 10 passes defensed, including three interceptions, and totaled 96 tackles.

Bynum signed a four-year, $60 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts, making him one of the highest-paid safeties in the NFL by average annual value. With the Colts, he earned a 70.8 overall PFF defensive grade, ranking 23rd among 98 qualified safeties. Bynum recorded four interceptions and contributed 65 solo tackles in run support and open-field situations. He was also named the NFL Way To Play Recipient for Week 10. Over his career, Bynum has accumulated 423 total tackles, 12 interceptions, 36 pass deflections, four forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries.

Off the field, Bynum is recognized for his commitment to his Filipino heritage and humanitarian work. As a biracial individual of African American and Filipino descent, Bynum has worked to honor both aspects of his identity. With his mother, Jennifer, he established the Bynum Faith Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing aid and holistic relief to underprivileged communities in the United States and the Philippines. The foundation's initiatives include food distribution, psychological first aid for disaster victims, home rebuilding, educational supplies, and youth athletic programs. After Typhoon Megi, Bynum and his foundation provided direct support in Leyte, assisting affected communities. The Bynum Faith Foundation has served six provinces in the Philippines, from feeding families in Tondo, Manila, to supporting fire victims in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

In recognition of his philanthropic efforts, Bynum was named the Week 15 Community MVP by the NFL Players Association. He has hosted an annual Filipino Fiesta, which has grown significantly as a fundraiser for the Bynum Faith Foundation. During the offseason, Bynum has lived in the Philippines full-time to help make sports like football more accessible for people of all ages.
