Cammi Granato

Cammi Granato is recognized as a significant figure in the history of ice hockey and is often cited among the top women's players produced by the United States. A graduate of Providence College, Granato set school records with 256 career points and earned ECAC Player of the Year honors three times. She became the all-time leading scorer for the U.S. Women's National Team, accumulating 343 points in 205 games over a 15-year international career. Playing center, Granato competed in every U.S. appearance at the IIHF Women's World Championships during her tenure, contributing to eight silver medals and the program's first gold medal.

Granato gained international attention as captain of Team USA, leading the team to a gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan, the inaugural year for women's ice hockey in the Olympics. She scored the first goal in U.S. women's Olympic history and guided her team to an undefeated run, culminating in a gold-medal win over Canada. Granato was selected as the U.S. flag bearer for the closing ceremonies. She returned as captain at the Salt Lake City Olympics, leading Team USA in scoring and helping secure a silver medal. The success of the Olympic Games contributed to the growth of female hockey programs in the United States, and Granato became a prominent figure in women's sports, with her image featured on a Wheaties box.

Beyond her playing career, Granato has worked in hockey broadcasting, serving as a color commentator for Los Angeles Kings radio broadcasts and as a rinkside reporter for NBC's NHL coverage, including the Winter Olympics. She co-hosts the podcast "On the Bus With Cammi & AJ" with A.J. Mleczko and authored a children's book inspired by her experiences in hockey. Granato founded the Golden Dreams for Children Foundation to support children with special needs and has led hockey clinics for young girls, focusing on youth hockey development.

Granato's contributions to ice hockey have been recognized with several honors. She received the Lester Patrick Trophy for service to hockey in the United States, was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame as one of the first women honored, became the first woman inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame, and was enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame alongside Angela James. In her post-playing career, Granato became the first female pro scout in NHL history with the Seattle Kraken and later served as Assistant General Manager of the Vancouver Canucks, overseeing player development and scouting.
