Béatrice Coron

Béatrice Coron is a French-born American interdisciplinary artist known for her expertise in papercut storytelling and public art. After studying art at École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon and Mandarin Chinese at Jean Moulin University Lyon 3, Coron lived in Egypt, Mexico, and China, working in a variety of roles including shepherdess, truck driver, factory worker, and New York City tour guide. These diverse experiences inform her artistic approach, which she developed after settling in New York City.

Coron has established a creative language rooted in the tradition of paper cutting, constructing layered visual narratives with a blade on paper and Tyvek. Her silhouette scenes explore the relationship between individuals and their environments. In addition to paper, she works with stone, glass, metal, rubber, stained glass, and digital media, producing works that range from artist books to large-scale public installations. Her designs have been exhibited at and acquired by institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Getty, Brooklyn Museum, Walker Art Center, and National Gallery of Art.

Coron's public art commissions include the mural "Dreams" in the Los Angeles Metro Rail system and the series of screens "On the Right Track" at the 104th Street station of the New York MTA. She has completed projects for transit systems in Chicago and installations such as "Roots and Wings" in Washougal, Washington, and "Cultivate Your Mind in the Orchard of Knowledge" in San Jose, California. In collaboration with James Stewart, she co-created the animated film "Daily Battles," and her installation "Hi Five! Stories from the Five Boroughs" was exhibited at the New-York Historical Society.

Coron is recognized for communicating complex themes through visual storytelling and has presented on creativity and innovation at conferences and institutions worldwide. Her TED Talk, "Stories Cut From Paper," has reached a global audience. She has served as a consultant and artist-in-residence for the Museum of Arts & Design's paper-cutting exhibition "Slash! Under the Knife." Coron continues to engage audiences across disciplines with her exploration of creativity, public art, and the power of visual narrative.
