
Bryan Young is an author, journalist, filmmaker, and podcaster whose work spans a range of media, including science fiction, fantasy, and pop culture. As a journalist, Young has written regularly for StarWars.com, Syfy, /Film, and HowStuffWorks, among others. He is the founding editor and former editor-in-chief of the geek news site Big Shiny Robot! In the Star Wars community, Young has interviewed figures such as George Lucas, Carrie Fisher, Dave Filoni, and Tony Gilroy, establishing his expertise on the franchise in popular media.
Young's filmmaking career includes work as a writer and producer of documentary films, as well as publishing comic books with Slave Labor Graphics and Image Comics. He produced two documentary feature films, "This Divided State" and "Killer at Large," both of which he also co-wrote. His short film, "The Lost Boys," has played at nearly 30 film festivals globally and received 16 awards, including two Best of Jury prizes.
As an author, Young has published both fiction and non-fiction across genre universes. He self-published his first novel, the comedy "Lost at the Con," about a political journalist covering a sci-fi convention. He released three novels with Silence in the Library Publishing: the sci-fi pulp adventure "Operation Montauk," the sci-fi western "The Serpent's Head," and the steampunk World War I tale "The Aeronaut." Young also wrote the history book "A Children's Illustrated History of Presidential Assassination." He co-authored "Robotech: The Macross Saga RPG" and its companion "Homefront," and has written eight books in the BattleTech universe, including "Honor's Gauntlet," "A Question of Survival," "Fox Tales," "Without Question," "VoidBreaker," "Lone Wolf and Fox," "Outfoxed," and "Ghosts of Timkovichi." His non-fiction tie-in book, "The Big Bang Theory Book of Lists," is a bestseller on Amazon.
Young's work has earned recognition and several awards, including two Diamond Quill awards, Writer of the Year by the League of Utah Writers, and the Utah Book Award from the Utah Humanities Council. His podcast "Full of Sith" is among the highest-rated podcasts covering Star Wars fandom, while "Fauxthentic History" explores fictional histories from popular culture. Young is an active member of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America and the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers.
In addition to his creative work, Young teaches writing for Writer's Digest, Script Magazine, and at the University of Utah. He is a past president of the League of Utah Writers and serves as president of the Salt City Genre Writers chapter. Young has appeared as a speaker and panelist at events including Star Wars Celebration, San Diego Comic-Con, Dragon Con, Gen Con, StokerCon, and the Writer's Digest Science Fiction & Fantasy Virtual Conference, contributing to discussions on storytelling, genre fiction, and the craft of writing.
