Bryan Clay

Bryan Clay is recognized as one of the most accomplished track and field athletes in American history, known for earning the title of Olympic decathlon champion. Clay is an American decathlete who won the Olympic gold medal in the decathlon and also secured a World Championship title. He demonstrated his athletic ability at Azusa Pacific University, where he won U.S. and Pan American junior titles and an NAIA gold medal. Known for his versatility in high school, where he competed in six events at a single meet, Clay was influenced by Olympic decathlon bronze medalist Chris Huffins, who encouraged him to pursue the decathlon.

Clay began his Olympic career at the Athens Olympic Games, where he earned a silver medal in the decathlon, and later won gold in Beijing, achieving one of the highest scores in history and securing a victory margin of 240 points, the largest in the decathlon since 1972. He continued to build on his achievements by improving his performance leading up to the World Championships in Helsinki, where he set personal bests in the shot put and 400 meters. His javelin throw set a World Championships record for a decathlon javelin throw, and he won gold with 8,732 points, one of the largest winning margins recorded.

Clay has been inducted into the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame and the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame. He received the USA Track & Field Jesse Owens Award and was named Track and Field News' U.S. Athlete of the Year. He is one of two Olympians featured on a special edition post-Olympics Wheaties cereal box, alongside gymnast Nastia Liukin. Clay chronicled his journey in his memoir, "Redemption: A Rebellious Spirit, a Praying Mother, and the Unlikely Path to Olympic Gold," which provides insight into the world of U.S. track and field.

Clay co-founded Eat The Frog Fitness, serving as chief brand officer, where he combines his athletic experience with entrepreneurship. Through Bred Ventures, a tech incubator, he contributes to the development of fitness technology, making high-level training accessible to a broader audience. The Bryan Clay Foundation focuses on building champions and changing lives, aiming to positively impact youth by providing opportunities and tools to help them reach their potential. Clay also supports the track and field community in Hawaii by offering free clinics and training to young athletes.
