Brianne Theisen-Eaton

Brianne Theisen-Eaton is one of Canada's most decorated track and field athletes, recognized for her expertise in the heptathlon—a demanding two-day, seven-event competition that includes the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200-meter sprint, long jump, javelin throw, and 800-meter run. Theisen-Eaton won bronze at the Rio Olympic Games, earning Canada's first Olympic medal in the heptathlon.

Theisen-Eaton's path to Olympic success was built on a strong collegiate foundation. She competed for the University of Oregon, where she won three NCAA heptathlon titles, three NCAA pentathlon titles, and one with the 4×400-meter relay, becoming the first Canadian woman to win seven NCAA championships. After turning professional, Theisen-Eaton established herself on the international stage, capturing silver in the pentathlon at the IAAF World Indoor Championships, winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and securing gold in the pentathlon at the World Indoor Championships.

Central to Theisen-Eaton's international career were consecutive silver medals at the World Championships. She is a heptathlon silver medalist from both the World Championships and a pentathlon silver medalist from the World Indoor Championships, and is the first and only Canadian woman to podium in the multi-events at the World Championships. Her crowning achievement came at the Rio Olympics, where she delivered a comeback performance, moving from sixth place after the first day to ultimately claim the bronze medal. Theisen-Eaton also holds the Canadian record in the heptathlon, setting the mark of 6,808 points at the Hypo-Meeting in Gotzis, Austria.

Beyond her competitive achievements, Theisen-Eaton has spoken openly about the mental and emotional demands of elite sport, sharing insights into the pressures of Olympic competition and the psychological challenges faced by athletes. She has discussed how working with a sports psychologist helped her maintain perspective during injuries and setbacks. After retiring from competition, Theisen-Eaton transitioned into coaching, serving as the sprint coach at Sherwood High School in Sherwood, Oregon. She and her husband have also served as national ambassadors with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Team In Training.

Theisen-Eaton's legacy continues through her induction into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame and her ongoing involvement in the fitness industry, including a collaboration with Apple Fitness+. Her experience in track and field, Olympic competition, and athlete wellness positions her as a knowledgeable voice on the discipline, resilience, and adaptability required in elite athletics and life after sport.
