Brian Dunning

Brian Dunning is an American science writer, podcaster, and documentary filmmaker whose work centers on critical thinking, skepticism, and science communication. Formerly a computer scientist, Dunning leverages new media to advance science literacy and address misinformation in popular culture. He is a member of the Association of Science Communicators.

Dunning is the host and producer of the "Skeptoid" podcast, recognized as one of the longest-running independent science podcasts with over 100 million downloads. Each episode, approximately 10 minutes in length, examines a single topic, often focusing on pseudoscience, urban legends, conspiracy theories, alternative medicine, and paranormal claims. "Skeptoid" has received multiple podcast awards, including the Parsec Award. The show is distributed by PRX's Dovetail publishing platform.

Dunning is the author of seven books, including "Conspiracies Declassified." His publications explore the origins of conspiracy theories and cognitive biases that influence belief in misinformation. Dunning has also written and produced several documentary films, such as "The UFO Movie THEY Don't Want You to See," "Science Friction," and "Principles of Curiosity." His earlier film, "Here Be Dragons," is a 40-minute introduction to critical thinking for general audiences and received recognition from the Portland Humanist Film Festival.

Dunning has lectured on conspiracy theories at universities across the United States, Germany, and Australia, including recurring appearances at a national security course at American University in Washington, D.C. He has been featured on various radio programs and television documentaries and hosts the science video series "inFact with Brian Dunning." Dunning is known for his evidence-based approach to addressing myths and misinformation in public discourse. "Skeptoid" has also produced feature films, including "Alien Echoes," furthering Dunning's commitment to promoting scientific inquiry and skepticism in media.
