Brendan Suhr

Brendan Suhr is a basketball coach and executive with nearly 30 years of experience in the NBA and 13 seasons at the collegiate level. Suhr began his coaching career as an assistant under Dick Vitale at the University of Detroit. After one season with the Titans, he spent five years on staff at Fairfield before transitioning to the NBA, where Hall of Fame coach Hubie Brown invited him to join the Atlanta Hawks' staff. Suhr remained with the Hawks for nine seasons, working alongside coaches such as Brown, Kevin Loughery, and Mike Fratello.

Following his tenure with the Hawks, Suhr joined Chuck Daly's staff in Detroit, contributing to the Pistons' NBA Championships. The Pistons achieved three 50-win seasons during Suhr's time, including a 63–19 campaign. Suhr also served as the head scout for the USA's gold-medal winning Dream Team at the Summer Olympics, which featured players including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird. He was an assistant coach for two NBA All-Star Games and coached in more than 2,500 NBA games. During his NBA career, Suhr assisted Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame coaches Chuck Daly, Hubie Brown, and Lenny Wilkens. He later held assistant coaching roles with the New Jersey Nets, Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic, and served as Assistant Coach/Director of Player Personnel for the New York Knicks.

Suhr's impact extends beyond the NBA. He became Associate Head Coach at Louisiana State University, where he coached Ben Simmons, the first overall pick in the NBA Draft. Suhr also worked in the Continental Basketball Association as president, general manager, and head coach of the Grand Rapids Hoops, and co-owned the franchise for three years. He was recognized as the CBA's Coach of the Year. For nine seasons, Suhr served as Vice President of the NBA Coaches Association. Throughout his career, Suhr developed a philosophy of servant leadership, often stating, "I don't coach basketball, I coach people," reflecting his approach to teaching and leadership.

In addition to his coaching career, Suhr is a thought leader and entrepreneur in basketball coaching, leadership development, and team building. He co-founded Coaching U with Kevin Eastman to provide coaching development opportunities through seminars and clinics. Suhr has worked as a leadership consultant for the National Basketball Players Association, leading development programs for NBA players pursuing careers in coaching and front office roles. He is the author of the book "Chuck Daly Coaching U." Suhr is the founder and president of the consulting firm Off the Court, Inc., and is certified by the Gallup Organization as a Master Strengths Coach. His expertise spans team building, coaching, leadership, talent, and strengths development in both sports and business.
