Brad Rutter is an American game show contestant, TV host, producer, and actor, best known for his record-setting success on “Jeopardy!” With over $5.1 million in career winnings, he is the second highest-earning American game show contestant of all time, behind Ken Jennings, and remains the highest-earning contestant in “Jeopardy!” history primarily through special tournament events.
Rutter made history by retiring undefeated in regular competition, winning his original five-day run in 2000 and 17 subsequent tournament matches, including one as part of a team. His first defeat by a human opponent came in the 2020 “Jeopardy! The Greatest of All-Time” tournament, where he finished as second runner-up behind Jennings and James Holzhauer, earning $250,000.
Beyond “Jeopardy!” Rutter has appeared on other game shows, including a 2020 revival of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” where he served as an expert lifeline for celebrity contestant Catherine O’Hara, helping her correctly answer multiple questions and contribute to her $250,000 total.
In 2021, Rutter joined ABC’s “The Chase” as one of the show’s chasers, bringing his encyclopedic knowledge and competitive expertise to a new generation of game show audiences.
