Bob Corker

Bob Corker is an American businessman, entrepreneur, and former United States senator whose career spans construction, real estate, municipal government, and national politics. At age 25, Corker started a construction company with $8,000 in savings, expanding operations to 18 states before selling the company. He later acquired two of the largest real estate companies in Chattanooga. Corker founded the Corker Group, which acquired, developed, built, managed, and leased projects, and co-founded Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise, a nonprofit organization focused on affordable housing. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga recognized his business achievements by naming him to its Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame.

Corker’s entry into public service was influenced by a mission trip to Haiti. He served as mayor of Chattanooga and as commissioner of the Tennessee Finance and Administration Department. Corker was elected to the U.S. Senate after defeating Democratic U.S. Representative Harold Ford Jr., becoming the only non-incumbent Republican elected to the Senate in that Congress. He was reelected with a significant margin over Democrat Mark E. Clayton.

During two terms in the Senate, Corker became known for his work on foreign policy and fiscal issues. As a member of the Republican Party, he served as chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Corker’s voting record reflected a moderate approach, often diverging from party leadership. His experience in construction and development informed his work on housing finance reform following the subprime-mortgage crisis. Corker also introduced legislation to address modern slavery and was recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

After retiring from politics, Corker returned to business as chairman of Rise Partners, which focuses on commercial and residential real estate development and management, and as chairman of One-to-One Health, a provider of workplace and virtual concierge medicine. He also serves as a special advisor to Jefferies Financial Group, a global investment banking firm, and sits on advisory boards for organizations such as the Aspen Economic Strategy Group and Skyuka Hall. Corker is a frequent speaker on government, world affairs, and political leadership, drawing on his experience in both the private and public sectors.
